Vibeke Strand, M.D. Dr. Vibeke Strand has over twenty years of experience as a clinical investigator and subspecialist rheumatologist in private practice as well as in senior positions in pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms. ![]() For the past eleven years, she has served as an independent consultant to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, developing strategies for the efficient development of treatments for autoimmune diseases. She has assisted in defending NDAs and BLAs to the FDA, and has participated in FDA Advisory Panel Meetings discussing Draft Guidance Documents in RA, OA and SLE, radiographic analyses and JRA. She has worked to promote forums for the discussion of rational product development among industry, FDA and academia as cofounder of a biyearly conference, "Innovative Therapies in Autoimmune Diseases," and as a member of the organizing committees for six international consensus conferences on outcome measures for rheumatology clinical trials (OMERACT). She is a Clinical Professor in the Division of Immunology at Stanford University. As a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Rheumatology, she has authored or coauthored more than 75 articles and 20 book and textbook chapters, and has co-edited two books. ![]() |

Lee Simon, M.D. In addition to his post at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Simon is Head Regulatory Consultant and Scientific Advisory Board member for MEDACorp, a consulting firm. ![]() Previously, Dr. Simon served as the Division Director of the Arthritis, Analgesic & Ophthalmologic Drug Product Division at the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. He is a Section Editor on Osteoarthritis for Current Rheumatology Reports, and serves as an editorial board member and reviewer for numerous scientific publications. Philip Mease, M.D. Dr. Mease is a clinical professor at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, and chief of rheumatology clinical research at the Swedish Hospital Medical Center. ![]() He conducts clinical trials of emerging therapies for a number of rheumatic disease conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, lupus, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia and osteoporosis. James Rigas, M.D. Dr. Rigas received his BS in Biology in 1977 from Cornell University and his M.D. in 1984 from Medical College of Pennsylvania. ![]() He completed his residency at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) in 1988 and completed his oncology fellowship at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Medical Center in 1990. From 1990 to 1995, he was an Instructor in Medicine at Cornell University Medical College and a Clinical Assistant Attending Physician at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. In 1995 he joined the faculty of the DHMC as Director of the Comprehensive Thoracic Oncology Program. Dr. Rigas's main clinical research interest is in thoracic oncology. Stephen T. Sonis, D.M.D., D.M.Sc Dr. Sonis is a world-renowned expert in the clinical treatment and research of cancer regimen-related mucosal toxicities. ![]() His development of predictive animal models has enabled the investigation of the biological basis of mucositis and has assisted in the development of potential therapies. The results of his studies on the molecular and cellular pathogenesis of mucositis have established the basis of a mechanistic paradigm for mucosal injury, and have provided a number of treatment targets. Peter Goadsby, M.B. B.S. Dr. Goadsby is director of the UCSF Headache Center and one of the world's leading headache experts and researchers. ![]() He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of headache disorders, including migraines and cluster headache and other forms of chronic daily headache. He completed his medical degree and doctorate program at the University of New South Wales School of Medicine followed by residencies in medicine, neurology and clinical neurophysiology at Prince Henry, Prince of Wales Hospital. David W. Dodick, M.D., FRCP, FACP Dr. Dodick is professor of neurology at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Consultant in Neurology at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona. ![]() He received his medical degree with distinction from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He completed his internship and neurology residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, followed by fellowships in Headache and Cerebrovascular Diseases at the University of Toronto, in Ontario Canada. Dr. Dodick is board certified by both the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is co-director of the Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Headache Society and a member of the Scientific Committee of the Migraine Trust. He is a member of the Board of Governors, executive committee, and serves as secretary of the American Headache Society (AHS). He is also the secretary of the Headache & Facial Pain Section of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), and chairman of Headache and Facial Pain for the Annual AAN meeting. He is associate editor of Cephalalgia and Headache, editor-in-chief of Headache Currents, and on the editorial board for The Neurologist and Postgraduate Medicine. Richard Lipton, M.D. Dr. Lipton received his medical degree from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. ![]() He completed a neurology residency and a clinical neurophysiology fellowship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York, and a fellowship in neuroepidemiology at the Sergievsky Center of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York, N.Y. Dr. Lipton is currently a Professor of Neurology, Epidemiology and Social Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, N.Y. He is a staff neurologist at the Montefiore Headache Unit and an attending physician at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, N.Y. He is also Chief Science Officer of IMR, the clinical and outcomes research division of Advance PCS in Stamford, CT. Dr. Lipton has published over 300 original articles and reviews in the fields of headache, neuroepidemiology and health services research. He is a two-time winner of the Harold Wolff Award for excellence in headache research. He has co-authored or edited four books including the most recent edition of Wolff's Headaches. He has served as the principle investigator on numerous studies in several therapeutic areas. Dr. Lipton is a member of several professional societies such as the American Academy of Neurology and the American Neurological Association. He is the president of the American Headache Society and the treasurer of the International Headache Society. Hans-Christoph Diener, M.D., Ph.D. Prof. Diener is Professor of Neurology and Chairman of the Department of Neurology and Co/chairman of non/surgical Intensive Care Medicine at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany. ![]() He is chairman of the West-German Headache Center, the Essen Stroke Center, the Essen Pain Clinic, the Essen Vertigo and Dizziness Center and the Outpatient Rehabilitation Unit (NETZ). He is the past president of the German Neurological Society, European Headache Federation and International Headache Society. Prof. Diener chairs the German Headache Consortium and the German Stroke Data Bank. Dr. Diener’s special research interests focus on headache, stroke and cerebellar physiology. Prof. Diener has authored or coauthored 718 articles, 158 as first author, in peer-reviewed journals (13 in the NEJM), 236 invited reviews, and 305 book chapters, and served as the editor or author of 70 books. ![]() |

Jes Olesen, M.D., Ph.D. Prof. Olesen is the founder and a co-director of the Danish Headache Center in Copenhagen, Denmark. ![]() He is currently a Professor of Neurology at the Danish Headache Center and Department of Neurology at the University of Copenhagen. He has held numerous honorary positions, including president of the International Headache Society (IHS) and the European Federation of Neurological Societies, and the European Brain Council. He has received numerous national and international awards and he is an honorary member of the Austrian, British, German and French neurological societies. His main research interests include pathophysiological mechanisms underlying migraine, and the epidemiology, classification and genetics of headache. Messoud Ashina M.D., Ph.D. Dr. Ashina is the Associate Professor at the Department of Neurology and Danish Headache Center, Glostrup Hospital, University of Copenhagen. ![]() He is currently a Director of Human Migraine Research Group at the Danish Headache Center. Dr. Ashina received his medical degree at the Azerbaijan Medical University, and completed his residency in neurology at the University of Copenhagen, where he received his Ph.D. and Dr.Med.Sci. Since 1995 he has been actively involved in headache research. Dr Ashina’s research interests include experimental headache models and functional neuroimaging. He has authored over 150 papers, abstracts and book chapters on the topic of headache, including tension-type headache and migraine. ![]() |

Stephen D. Silberstein, M.D. Dr. Silberstein is Professor of Neurology and Director of the Jefferson Headache Center at Thomas Jefferson University. ![]() He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American Academy of Neurology, and the American Headache Society. He has served the American Headache Society as President, Treasurer, and Board of Directors member. He has served on the Publications, Scientific, and Education Committees of the American Headache Society and was Co-chairman of the Annual Scientific Meeting. Dr. Silberstein is an active member of the American Academy of Neurology and is Co-director of the national and international Headache Guideline Project, in cooperation with the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research. He was the Chairman of the International Headache Society meeting in Philadelphia in 2009. He is Chairman of the headache research group of the World Federation of Neurology. Dr. Silberstein received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. After completing a fellowship in neurology at the National Hospital for Nervous Diseases in London, he served as a Pharmacology Research Associate in the Toxicology Laboratory of Clinical Science at the National Institutes of Mental Health, and completed a neurology residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Silberstein is the Senior Editor of Wolff's Headache and Other Head Pain, Associate Editor of Cephalalgia and CNSDrugs, and a present or prior member of the Editorial Board of Headache; Cephalalgia; Acta Neurologica Scandinavica; Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry; and Topics in Pain Management. He is an ad hoc reviewer for many publications, including The New England Journal of Medicine; Brain, The Lancet, JAMA, Mayo Clinic Proceedings, Annals of Neurology, and Neurology.
